Sacrifying material in the Sicilian I'm a player who loves to sacrifice pieces, so I play a lot King's Gambit , but often I get confronted with the the Sicilian defence...
I know that also in the Sicilian there are lots of sac opportunities, but I'm not familiar with them. :-(
Are there by chance players here in gameknot that can give me links to games here on gk where there is being "sacced" by white in the Sicilian? (or some main lines on the sacrifices in Sicilian would also be nice :-))

With kind regards,

Thematic sacrifices in the Sicilian For example the sacrifice 11.Ndxb5!? in the English Attack is played often at the top level (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.f3 e6 7.Be3 b5 8.g4 Nf-d7 9. Qd2 Nb6 10.O-O-O Nb8-d7 11.Ndxb5):

more sacrifices... Nc3-d5 is sometimes played as a thematic sacrifice to open up the e-file if there's a pawn on e6, even if black has castled. The sozin attack against the Najdorf has a very nasty bishop sacrifice on e6 eg. 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bc4 e6 7. Bb3 b5 8. a3 Be7 9. 0-0 Nd7?? 10. Bxe6! fxe6 11. Nxe6 Qb6 12. Nxg7+ etcetera and black will have difficulty surviving because of his king position.

Yes I've got several books on the sicilian, however I'm a little fuzzy on the popular sacrifice tactics. The most popular one is the Rxc3 (Knight) sac when the King is castled queenside, and also there are a few bishop sacrifices. I can't remember all the bishop sacrifices, but I would recognize them if I saw them. I would have pulled my books out and given you some specific games/lines but I'm in the process of moving out of the country, so I'll definitely post some more information for you if you're interested. Yes, you are very correct in that the Sicilian has many sacrificial and tactical opportunities. I think it would be a great opening for you to study if that fit your playstyle. However, it isn't a typical gambit opening, so the typical sacrifices take more guts and tactical confidence than a pawn sacrifice. The disadvantage is that there is load of theory to wade through depending on which variation of Sicilian you choose, which can be a real headache.

Attacking themes Hello -- You might want to find a copy of the wonderful book by Mikhail Tal called "Attack With Mikhail Tal." Many fine themes are examined for the underlying ideas on sacrificial attack, including many against the Sicilian. This book can be bought on line (new and used) through Alibris books or through (eBay's little sister. Good luck and happy sacrificing.
