cochrane gambit can anyone direct me to a source of information on the cochrane gambit? i'd like to know common lines and theory behind it.. it gives me major trouble and all i can find are databases of games featuring the gambit but i'd rather read about the theory directly.

My two sourses "A Startling Chess Opening Repertoire" - Chris Baker - Cadogan Chess has about 16 pages on the Cochrane Gambit.

"The Petroff" Lasha Janjgava - Gambit Chess has 6 pages on the Cochrane Gambit.

There is a book about the Cochrane that I have heard of a couple of years ago but it was out of print and I wasn't able to find a copy anywhere.

Sorry I can't be of more help but The Cochrane seems to be one of those opening hiding in plain view!

Forintos covers the Cochrane pretty well in his book on the Petroff, but Yusupov,in his huge book on the Petroff, only gives it maybe half a page.

Nigel Short I've got Bolton's finest (Nigel Short) thoughts on the Cochrane Gambit scribbled down. I believe he uses it regularly in his Internet blitz matches and, very occasionally, in Tournament match play.

Kind regards

Cal

Topalov,V (2700) - Kramnik,V (2751) I found this annotated game of the Cochrane gambit that you may find useful.
